Chinese New Year is around the corner - come experience an exciting and vibrant 7 weeks long performances in Chinatown starting from 20 January to 6 March 2019!

Themed “Celebration of Abundance and Prosperity”, this year’s Chinese New Year 2019 will be lit with Piglet-themed light-up, conceptualised and designed by Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD). The light-up will be hanged along South Bridge Road forming a Chinese character ‘Spring’ that can be seen from an aerial view.

The light-up will commence on 19 January - 6 March 2019. The opening ceremony will feature various performances by troupes from Singapore and Asia-Pacific who will also be competing in a ticketed lion dance competition held in Kreta Ayer Square on 26th of January.

Witness the beautifully displayed lanterns and the colourful decorations and join the Chinese New Year countdown party hosted by Mediacorp artists on 4th of February, featuring performances of festive songs, skits and interactive games, as well as more firecrackers and fireworks. Experience non-stop revelry with bright colours while learning rich Chinese culture and heritage.

And that’s not all! Visitors can enjoy a host of activities, including the 420-stall Festive Street Bazaar, where you can find festive snacks/goodies as well as traditional clothing.

The annual street performance and float parade, Chingay 2019, will make an appearance in Chinatown this year on 17th of February to bring the celebrations to a great height but also marking the end of the Chinese New Year Celebrations. Head down to the Heartlands for a vibrant night that includes special performances and not forgetting the 10 over beautifully decorated floats.
